Understand The Rule Of The Soccer Game Stop! Blind Arguement

We encourage soccer fan and other spectators to acquaint themselves with soccer laws to better enjoy the game. Some fan will ague blindly without know what the law of soccer game says For a more thorough understanding of them, read FIFA's (17) Laws of the Game.
Goal
A score occurs if the ball passes under the crossbar, between the goal posts, and all of the ball passes completely over the outside edge of the goal line.
Throw-in
If all of the ball passes completely over the outside edge of the touchline (sideline), the restart is a throw-in. The throw-in is taken by the team that did not last touch the ball. An improper throw-in or a throw-in taken from the wrong spot results in a throw-in for the opposing team.
Goal Kick
If all of the ball passes over the goal line, it was last touched by an attacking player, and a valid goal was not scored, the restart is a goal kick. The ball is placed in the goal area and kicked by a member of the defending team. All attacking players must remain outside the penalty area until the ball leaves the penalty area. A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but only against the opposing team (you can't accidentally kick the ball into your own goal and score a goal for the opponent, because the ball isn't in play until it leaves the penalty box).
Corner Kick
If all of the ball passes over the goal line, it was last touched by a defending player, and a valid goal was not scored, the restart is a corner kick. The ball is placed in the corner arc and kicked by an attacking player.
Drop Ball
When the game is stopped while the ball is in play, for reason other than an infraction of the Laws, the game is restarted with a drop ball.
Penal Foul
A direct free kick is the sanction awarded at the point of infraction for any one of the ten penal fouls. For the complete working and understanding of these infractions you must read the actual laws of the game. This is but an overview:
  1. Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent
  2. Tripping or attempting to trip an opponent
  3. Jumping at an opponent
  4. Violently charging an opponent
  5. Striking or attempting to strike an opponent
  6. Pushing an opponent
  7. Making contact with opponent before contacting the ball when making a tackle
  8. Holding an opponent
  9. Spitting or attempting to spit at an opponent
  10. Deliberately handling the ball (except by goal-keeper in penalty area)
Penalty Kick
If one of the ten penal fouls is committed by the defense in their own penalty area, the sanction awarded to the attacking team is a penalty kick. The ball is placed on the penalty mark, the kicker is identified, the goal-keeper is positioned on the goal-line and all other players must remain outside the penalty area and penalty arc and not closer to the goal-line than the penalty mark until the ball has been kicked. The goal-keeper may move laterally along the goal line. Time is extended for a penalty kick taken at the end of half-time, full-time, or over-time.
Non-Penal Foul
An indirect free kick is the sanction awarded at the point of infraction for any non-penal foul. Again, this is an overview. The law book must be consulted for a complete working and understanding.
  1. Dangerous play
  2. Impeding the progress of an opponent and not playing the ball
  3. Preventing the goal-keeper from releasing the ball
  4. Goal-keeper touching the ball a second time with hands after releasing it and before it has touched any other player
  5. Goal-keeper touching the ball with hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him/her by a team mate
  6. Goal-keeper handling a throw-in with hands
  7. Goal-keeper wasting time
Free Kicks:

  • Direct Free Kick
On a direct free kick, the ball may be kicked directly into the opponent's goal.
  • Indirect Free Kick
On an indirect free kick, the ball must touch another player in addition to the kicker prior to a goal being scored. The referee signals an indirect free kick by holding a hand in the air until the ball is played or touched by another player or goes out of bounds.
    Advantage
The referee applies the advantage clause to allow play to continue if, in the opinion of the referee, the fouled team would lose their advantage by stopping play to award them a free kick. If the referee applies the advantage clause and the advantage which was anticipated does not develop at that time, the referee shall penalize the original offense.
    Off-side (one S only)
A player is in an off-side position if he or she is nearer to the opponents' goal-line than the ball (i.e. in front of the ball), unless the player is in his or her half of the field, or there are at least two opponents between them and the goal-line. It is not an offense in itself to be in an off-side position. A player shall only be penalized for being in an off-side position if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by a teammate, he or she is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in the play by:
    • interfering with play
    • interfering with an opponent
    • gaining an advantage by being in that position
A player shall not be declared off-side by the referee merely because of being in an off-side position or if the ball is received directly from a goal kick, a corner kick, or a throw-in. If a player is declared off-side, the referee shall award an indirect free kick, which shall be taken by a player of the opposing team from the place where the infringement occurred, unless the offense is committed by a player in the opponents' goal area, in which case the free kick shall be taken from any point within the goal area.
Misconduct Resulting in a Caution (YELLOW CARD)
    1. Dissent with the referee's decision by word or action
    2. Unsporting behavior (including removing jersey to celebrate a goal)
    3. Persistent infringement of the Laws of the Game
    4. Entering or re-entering the field of play without the referee's permission
    5. Deliberately leaving the field of play without the referee's permission
    6. Delaying the restart of play
    7. Failing to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a kick
Misconduct Resulting in a Send-off (RED CARD)
    1. Violent conduct
    2. Serious foul play
    3. Abusive or foul language
    4. Spitting at an opponent or any other person
    5. Denying an opponent a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by an offense punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick
    6. Guilty of a second caution-able offense after having already received a caution
Two of the most misunderstood laws are handling the ball, and off-side. As spectators and coaches, please refrain from helping the referee by hollering out HANDS! or OFF SIDE! If you would like to be in a position to make those calls, please sign up for a referee class and volunteer to officiate some games. Otherwise, it is not useful to assist the referee with these calls.

As United legend Giggs turns 40, watch the incredible footage of him at 14 (named Ryan Wilson!) tearing up Granada Schools Cup

Ryan Giggs at 40Twenty-five years ago TV cameras didn't capture every moment of significant football action but we should be thankful ITV sent a crew to Anfield to film the final of the Granada Schools Cup in 1988.

For the record, Salford beat Blackburn 3-2 with a winning goal coming in extra time at the Kop end. It was the second successive year that Blackburn had lost in the final but in the dressing rooms and indeed the boardroom that night nobody really talked about that.
Instead they talked about Ryan Wilson, the 14-year-old who had won the game for Salford. He didn’t score but his leggy, direct running provided the assists for each of his team’s goals.
“Had our scouts known about him, we would definitely have tried to sign him,' said Liverpool chief scout Ron Yeats, who presented the trophies that night.
Young Wilson, of course, was the teenage footballer who was to become known as Ryan Giggs. Wilson was his father’s name, Giggs his mother’s maiden name.
If you watch footage of that night at Anfield, Giggs is instantly recognisable. The upright

Champions League Preview: Arsenal - Borussia Dortmund

The Premier League leader has won its opening two group games and takes on last year's beaten finalist, which will be without Jurgen Klopp on the touchline as he serves a ban.
Arsenal will be looking to maintain its perfect start to Group F when the club hosts Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.Arsene Wenger's side has enjoyed a fine start to its European campaign, with a 2-1 win away at Marseille being followed up by a 2-0 success at home against Napoli.

Last year's runner-up Dortmund, meanwhile, went down 2-1 in Naples on the first matchday, before responding with a 3-0 triumph over Marseille, although the team will be without coach Jurgen Klopp for Tuesday's game as he serves the second of his two-match touchline ban.The home side comes into the game in fine form domestically and is currently top of the Premier League, having taken 19 points from seven matches since an opening day defeat at home to Aston Villa.
Klopp's side has been in similarly impressive early season form in the Bundesliga, having won seven and drawn one of its opening nine Bundesliga games, with just a 2-0 loss at Borussia Monchengladbach blighting the record. The two sides last met at the same stage two years ago, when they shared a 1-1 draw in Germany before two Robin van Persie goals gave Arsenal a 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal's home record against German sides is strong, with Wenger's side winning nine and losing just three of the past 13 fixtures, although the club did taste defeat at home to Bundesliga outfits twice last season, 2-0 to Schalke in the group stage and 3-1 to eventual winner Bayern Munich in the second round.
Dortmund, winner of the competition in 1997, returns to the city where it lost the final last year, and the last time the club took on English opposition it drew 1-1 with Manchester City in the group stage on the way to that final appearance.Arsenal could be boosted by the inclusion of midfielder Santi Cazorla, who made his return from injury in the weekend Premier League win over Norwich after an ankle problem, while fullback Bacary Sagna has also overcome a hamstring complaint picked up in the win over Napoli - although Wenger faces a selection dilemma over whether to risk both for a second game in quick succession.

The quartet of Theo Walcott (abdomen), Abou Diaby (knee), Lukas Podolski (hamstring) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) are all long-term absentees and are unlikely to feature. For Dortmund, goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller is available again after serving a one-game suspension for a red card picked up in the defeat to Napoli, while Lukasz Piszczek (hip) and Ilkay Gundogan (spine) remain long-term injury worries.Marcel Schmelzer (thigh) and Sebastian Kehl (ankle) have not played since September, although the former was on the bench for the 1-0 win over Hannover on Saturday. Sven Bender (groin) and Jonas Hofmann (knee) also both featured in that game, although both have been carrying knocks so may not be risked. Marco Reus (ankle) came through the weekend win by scoring the winner and should play some part.

Uefa Champions League Matchday 3 Preview & Predictions: Schalke - Chelsea

    SchalkeSchalke 04   vs  ChelseaChelsea

Champions League Preview: Schalke - Chelsea

Chelsea heads to Germany to face Schalke on Tuesday hoping to pull itself level on points with the Champions League Group E leader. The Bundesliga side has made a superb start to its continental campaign, picking up a 3-0 home win over Steaua Bucharest on matchday one, and a 1-0 victory at Basel a fortnight later.Chelsea, meanwhile, bounced back from a 2-1 opening-game defeat to the Swiss champion in the best possible way last time out - cruising to a 4-0 win in Romania. That loss against Basel in September is Chelsea's last defeat in any competition, with Jose Mourinho's men currently second in the Premier League following a 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Saturday.
Schalke's domestic campaign has faltered, however, with Jens Keller's men picking up just four victories from their opening nine fixtures, although they head into this clash off the back of a 3-2 win at Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday in which they were forced to come from behind twice. The sides have met at this stage of the Champions League on one previous occasion - in 2007 - when Chelsea came away with a point from a goalless draw at the Veltins-Arena, having beaten the German side 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Both eventually qualified from that group, with Chelsea going on to lose the final on penalties to Manchester United.

Schalke will be looking to its top domestic goalscorer Adam Szalai to find his shooting boots in Europe, while Julian Draxler will aim to maintain his record of having scored in both matches in the group stages so far.But the Bundesliga's fifth-placed side has a lengthy injury list to contend with, including striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who is set to miss three to four months with a knee injury that will require surgery.Midfielder Marco Hoger was also forced off in the weekend win with a knee injury and is now a major doubt.
For Chelsea, Ashley Cole is a fitness concern after missing England's final two World Cup qualifiers and his club's win at the weekend with a rib injury, while Andre Schurrle was also absent for the Cardiff match due to a muscle problem in his leg. Victory by one goal would be enough to send Chelsea above Schalke in the group.

UEFA Champions League Matchday3 Preview & Prediction: Steaua Bucharest - Basel

    SteauaSteaua    vs BaselBasel Preview

Champions League Preview: Steaua Bucharest - Basel

The visiting side will be hoping its fantastic away win to Chelsea can be repeated when it travels to face the eastern European club.
Steaua Bucharest will be striving for its first Champions League group stage win since 2006 when the club hosts Basel on Tuesday. The Romanian champion has faced Chelsea and Schalke so far this season in Group E and was defeated in both games, conceding a total of seven goals in the process without scoring.
Steaua will be looking to take its domestic form into the Champions League after winning eight and drawing one of its first nine matches of the campaign to set the pace at the top of the table.A 4-0 away victory at Viitorul Constanta on Friday proved to be the perfect preparation for the visit of Basel. The form of Italian attacker Federico Piovaccari has played a significant part in the side's successful start to the season as he has scored five goals in seven league appearances, but Basel heads to Bucharest in a confident mood.

Murat Yakin's side is also sitting at the top of its own domestic league with 25 points from 12 games and the club's away form has been a particular highlight in recent weeks. The Swiss champion has played 11 matches in all competitions on the road and has yet to lose, with the last five away fixtures ending in victory.Basel's start to this season's Champions League, though, has been mixed. A 2-1 victory at Chelsea on matchday one was the first time the club has won a competitive match in England, but Basel's good work was undone by 1-0 defeat against Schalke last time out.
The match will be remembered more for a Greenpeace protest against Champions League and Schalke sponsors Gazprom, but the Germans left Switzerland with all three points thanks to Julian Draxler's second-half strike.Yakin will be able to rely upon a full-strength squad for the trip. Giovanni Sio is serving a domestic suspension, but he is free to play in Europe, while Marcelo Diaz will be available after returning late from international duty.Steaua coach Laurentiu Reghecampf also has no pressing injury concerns and has been boosted by the return of star midfielder Alexandru Chipciu, who played his first match since May in the win over Viitorul.

10 Africans Player To Watch In The Premier League

10 Africans Player To Watch In The Premier League

These players are doing their African roots proud in the English Premier League.

    Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama is the new African kid on the block. The Kenya international came of age during Celtic’s memorable run in the UEFA Champions League last term. Like a colossus, Wanyama strode across the European pitches patrolling the Hoops midfield with authority. There is tacit acceptance in the game that his Scottish football transfer record move to Southampton is a temporary detour en route to a bigger club. He is that good. Or he is? The season ahead will prove whether he is the real deal or overhyped.

    John Obi Mikel

Is there a place in the Chelsea midfield for Obi Mikel or will Michael Essien, who played under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid last season, be preferred to the Nigeria international? Mikel also faces competition from Ramires. The Brazilian has a more robust engine, is a better box-to-box midfielder and scores goals. Mikel is a competent midfield ‘destroyer’, but is less of a creative influence. A move to Turkey has been mooted but for now he remains a Chelsea player. Can we expect a John Obi Mikel reincarnation at the Bridge?

    Victor Moses

This could be Moses' breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge. Manager Jose Mourinho has been waxing lyrical about the forward in pre-season. Moses has already staked a claim to a starting berth with some encouraging displays on Chelsea’s tours. He is firmly in Mourinho’s plans. The self-styled Happy One said: "Victor has been terrific, working very hard. In his position, we have Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Andre Schurrle, and with Victor, we can change during a match and give new life to the team."

    Wilfried Bony

The Ivorian is Swansea’s club record signing. He has already hit the ground running after scoring two goals in the Europa League third qualifying round home victory over Malmo. He looks the part and every inch worth the £12m the Swans stumped for his signature. He could be the Premier League’s surprise package. Bony working in tandem with Michu gives Swansea a potentially potent partnership that not many Premier League defenders will relish facing.

    Demba Ba

Oh, what we wouldn’t give for Demba Ba’s thoughts on Jose Mourinho's very public pursuit of Wayne Rooney. Reports also claim the Special One wanted to bring Didier Drogba back to Chelsea but was given short shrift. Ba looks the most vulnerable of Chelsea's strikers at the moment. If the pre-season is a window into the campaign ahead then Ba is on the periphery. The Senegal international is lower down the pecking order behind Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres, while the likes of Victor Moses and summer arrival Andre Schurrle can also operate as strikers. Mourinho has already said he will rotate his players. Ba will do well to grab his chance when he is picked.

    Papiss Cisse

Cisse's pre-season has been dominated by how he would not be seen dead wearing Newcastle’s Wonga-sponsored shirt. The Senegal star argued that the shirt affronted his Muslim beliefs. After the phony war with the club came the inevitable truce and Cisse will after all wear a Wonga-sponsored shirt. There are some among the Newcastle United faithful who will feel that the striker has a lot to make amends for when the season gets underway.

    Peter Odemwingie

In limbo at the minute after that much publicised failed moved to QPR on transfer deadline day in January. Can Odemwingie repair his fractious relationship with West Brom or is that irretrievably damaged? Can the Nigeria international play himself back into the Baggies’ first-team reckoning and manager Steve Clarke’s good graces? On his day Odemwingie can be devastating. Indeed, Harry Redknapp, never one for understatements, attributed Rangers' relegation in part to his failure to sign Odemwingie.

    Sebastien Bassong

A cult hero at Carrow Road, captain of the Canaries and the club's reigning Player or the Year. But for his influence Norwich might have been relegated long before they avoided the drop right at the death. Having played for Newcastle and Tottenham, the Cameroon international’s considerable Premier League experience will be vital to Norwich’s bid to preserve their Premier League status again this season.

    Adel Taarabt

Adel Taarabt is a maverick talent. On loan at Fulham from QPR he will be playing under a manager (Martin Jol) who has expressed a willingness to tinker his tactics to oblige the Morocco international’s maverick tendencies and match-winning talents. As Fulham captain Brede Hangeland noted aptly, Taarabt’s talent is 'unquestionable'. But does he have the consistency and work ethic to match?

    Kagisho Dikgacoi

After a false start to his Premier League career with Fulham, Dikgacoi has a second bite of the cherry with top flight new boys Crystal Palace. He was instrumental in the Eagles' promotion from the Championship via the play-offs. Does he have the temperament and talent to play in the Premier League?

Who is better? Ronaldo or Messi

A common debate encountered between football fans is: Who is better??

    Ronaldo or Messi

When it comes to hardcore fans, opinions don't concord. Messi sure has the lead with his 4th Ballon d'Or but it isn't enough when he has a fierce competitor like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 made them stand head to head and pit against each other. The rivalry between their clubs fuelled up the comparison talks between them. While Messi was product of a brilliant product of Barcelona academy that they show ostentatiously, Ronaldo was brought at Bernabeu on popular fan appeal.
Although both have different roles, different positions, different methods at their respective clubs, but the comparison between them is inevitable owing to the fact that they have shared last 5 Ballon'dor amongst them. Both give 100% to their clubs.
Ronaldo has an unflinching pace that takes defenders with surprise; his sharp acceleration helps the cause. Messi likes to take defenders one-on-one while inching closer to the opponents' goal-line.
Well, I am not taking any sides, but every person has a right to keep an opinion, so to ease that I have garnered some points that can ease you into making your judgment.
    1. Pace and acceleration: Ronaldo has a pace like a leopard, out-beating his markers is a walk in the park for him. Messi has enough pace to do the out-pacing and he puts his dab body in good use by making low profile supporting runs.

    2. Ball control and Dribbling: Dribbling is the Magnus opus of Messi. In fact most of his goals are the result of his gifted supremacy in dribbling. On the other hand, Ronaldo though has a supremacy in the step-overs (or the scissors), but he has been seen a little shy of perfectly executing at times.

    3. Assists: I consider both players selfless, though Ronaldo is often touted as a selfish player, but having played at winging position myself, I know that wingers don't get many chances to prove their selflessness.

    4. Strategy: Both players are good at crafting clear-cut opportunities for their teams. They are not only great cool finishers but are equally expert in engineering opportunities that literally beg for finish.

    5. Shooting: Shooting from a distance is what has made Ronaldo a priceless treasure. His thunderous shots are a scary sight for even best of the goalkeepers. Messi hasn't been seen much with the long shots but he can't be underestimated for that.

    6. Acrobatics and weak-foot ability: Messi has been termed weak in this particular department, and it is quite true owing to his meager 5'7" height, but in recent seasons, he has been making constant progress to subdue such allegations. Statistically speaking, he scores a fair amount of goals with headers. Ronaldo leaps over jumping defenders is a constant sight in Real's game and its quite clear that there's no dearth in his aerial abilities. Weak foot ability is a thing, though isn't a necessary quality but is a great quality to have when bailing out from a compromising situation. Both wizards have excellent weak foot ability, which helps them to gain extra points and fan appreciation.
Another quite impressive quality to consider is free kick taking ability. But I believe when you are in a 5-star team, it isn't a much needed one. Generally such teams already keep a free kick genius, such as: Barcelona has Xavi while Madrid had the services of Beckham and Roberto Carlos.
The discussion will not end, and may never end, but one thing's for sure that the duo will keep us entertained in the years to come.

    2013-2014 Premier League Season Predictions

    Perfect Football Prediction
With the summer transfer window finally over making predictions for the 2013-14 Premier League season is much more realistic. With the number of changes made with several teams it means that some teams have become better while others have not been able to strengthen.
With the season already under way there have been some hints of what is to come, but there have been enough changes made with many teams that week 4 is the true start to the season. The first international break is over, but more importantly, the 2013 summer transfer window has closed.

    Top Four Prediction:

     1. Manchester United
    2. Chelsea
    3. Manchester City
    4. Tottenham Hotspur

The top (and middle) of the table will be extremely competitive this season. There are more than the typical four teams that will be competing for the Champions League places.
United are still the team to beat. They may not have made the changes they wanted to make, but they were still able to keep the team that won the EPL last season while also adding another midfielder to depth chart.
Chelsea and Manchester City have made several positive changes, but still have areas of weakness. Chelsea is missing a top notch, world class striker while City has shown they can be beaten and will leak goals without Vincent Kompany to command the back line.
I still think that Tottenham had probably the best summer transfer window and brought in some excellent signings. This will not be an easy season for any team at the top, but I think they have what it takes to push for Champions League.

    Middle of the Table Prediction:

    5. Liverpool
    6. Arsenal
    7. Everton
    8. Swansea
    9. Southampton
    10. Aston Villa

Liverpool and Arsenal will definitely be in the mix for a top four finish. Liverpool look strong and when Luis Suarez returns they will have the attacking edge they need really get going. Liverpool is still one of those teams just on the cusp and I'm very tempted to pick them for top four, but they do still have some questions marks. Will they be able to continue to play the same possession game all season, even with Suarez? Liverpool is probably the biggest dark horse of all the teams in the league and really could be a team finishing anywhere in the top eight. They do still have a young team and lack some depth in midfield and defense. Their high pressing, possession based strategy will require a high amount of mental stamina all season which could lead to mistakes and negative results.
Arsenal made the biggest splash in the summer transfer window by landing Mesut Ozil. His signing will provide Arsenal with an attacking edge that could propel them. However, this signing did not address their areas of weakness, namely a strong ball winning midfielder, quality defenders, and a quality goal keeper. Ozil's addition could make the strikers they have much better and thus eliminate the need for a world class forward.
Everton also had themselves an excellent transfer window. This combined with the use of youngsters Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley means that Everton has become a rejuvenated team. They do have question marks at the back, especially with Tim Howard making mistakes. Adding Romelu Lukaku on loan was a genius move and means that they now have a quality striker.
The middle of the 2013-14 EPL Table will be very competitive with teams like West Ham United, Aston Villa, Southampton, Norwich City, and Swansea City vying for places.

    Relegation Predictions:

     17. Sunderland
    18. Fulham
    19. Crystal Palace
    20. Hull City

Very little has changed at the bottom of the 2013-14 Premier League table. I do believe that there will be other teams that could struggle at the bottom including Stoke City and Cardiff City. I do feel that teams like Newcastle United, Cardiff and Stoke will be safe, but West Brom is a team that could have problems and get sucked in if they aren't careful.
The Black Cats are going to struggle this season, but they should be able to just survive. They have made the most changes of any team in the EPL and it will take time for them to gel. It remains to be seen as to whether they will be able to and whether Paulo Di Canio will even last the season.
Fulham have been rather languid over the past year. They managed to scrape by last season without getting caught in too much of a relegation battle. This had more to do with their start to last season as well as being surrounded by worse teams. I think this will be the season that they get sucked down.
Crystal Palace has made a lot of changes in an attempt to stay up in the Premier League, but I do think this is a team that is preparing more for next season and being able to make a return than a team that will actually survive.
Hull City has not started the season well and have done more to bolster their midfield and defense, but little to help out in the attacking third. This is going to really hurt them now, but should be helpful in returning next season to try again.
This season is shaping up to be one of the best Premier League seasons on record. There is a lot of quality in the league, despite what so many nay-saying pundits might say.
